How To Prepare a Paper for JCAP
Install latex if you haven't already. Start here on Mac OS X. I use the TeXWorks application for live previewing.
General info for JCAP authors is here.
Get the JCAP style file, bibliography template, and manual here.
Install these files into system directories so you don't need to copy them into each paper directory you are working on, and so they won't be included in directory tar files. You might first need to update your TeXLive (tl) installation:
sudo mv jcappub.sty /usr/local/texlive/2012/texmf-dist/tex/latex/base/ sudo texhash
The jcappub style file already includes some other useful packages (amsmath, etc) so don't include these yourself.
See here for an overview of using bibtex to manage your references in separate files that can be used across projects.
Your references section should look like this with bibtex:
which refers to a shared database of frequently used cosmology refs cosmo.bib and extra refs just for this paper in local.bib. Entries for both files can be cut and paste from the text you get when clicking Bibtex entry for this abstract from ADS (which is usually linked from entries in the arXiv or inspire). If you already know the ADS bibcode, you can fetch the corresponding bibtex entry by editing a URL like this one: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/cgi-bin/nph-bib_query?bibcode=2012arXiv1202.0091X&data_type=BIBTEX
Add info on how we maintain a master cosmo.bib that everyone can share...
